Just over 5 years ago, in the aftermath of the first Trump presidency (which saw a resurgence of racism in the USA), I started Before We Were White as a project for countering the fake history underpinning White Nationalism.
I've updated and recorded the first essay I wrote 5 years ago.
Its content has become even more relevant today than it was back then.

Hi Alana. Yes, this podcast is aimed in large part at people who self-identify as ”white” (whatever their true ancestry), and trust that their self-identity will protect them from the creeping reach of fascists. I’m reasonably confident that people of color who listen in know most of this stuff already, and get the angle I’m taking. But I hear you, and will try to remain vigilant in my use of language!

”today it is black and brown people; tomorrow it will be you or me” Do you realize that black and brown people are listening? That statement suggests that ”you or me” are white.
